Ayacucho
Inca centre of government known for two of its structures: the Temple of the Sun and the Moon, and the «Ushno». The first was built of carved and polished stone, and consists of three stepped terraces. The temple of San Juan Bautista (Saint John the Baptist) was erected on top of its foundations in colonial times. The «Ushno» is a truncated pyramid comprising five platforms, one on top of the other and staggered, made with stones carved and assembled with incredible precision. The top section is remarkable for the «Throne of the Inca,» a monolithic stone block with two seats where, according to popular tradition, the Inca and the Colla attended the military and religious ceremonies held in the grand plaza of Vilcashuamán.
