Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983.

Cusco, located in the south of the Peruvian Andes (3,250 masl – 10,663 fasl), is the country’s leading tourist destination and one of the most important cities in the Americas. Known by the Incas as the «Sacred City», Cusco was the capital of one of the main pre-Columbian empires: the Tahuantinsuyo.
Its Quechua name, Qosqo, means «navel of the world», because the city was the center that controlled a vast network of roads stretching from southern Colombia to northern Argentina.
